OCR HIPAA Enforcement Shifts to a new approach designed to encourage and reward proactive data security programs.
In early 2019, the Office for Civil Rights (OCR) presented new focus areas. In addition, OCR unveiled new civil monetary penalities (CMPs).
For healthcare internal auditors, these changes signal guidelines for data security practices that will reduce the likelihood of a data security breach or financial losses resulting from compliance violations.
The OCR will also includes audits of organizations that do not report any breaches. Covered entities with the robust and comprehensive breach detection practices built into their security programs will fare better with OCR in this new environment.
